Happy New Year to all of you beautiful people! I hope it was so good that you spent most of if not all of New year’s day with an unimaginable hangover. Always the sign of a good night. Although you instantly regret it when you wake up. The combination of a splitting headache, kebab and alcohol breath is just the worst thing. I was actually very surprised at myself after my works Xmas party because I woke up with zero hangovers! Which I don’t think has ever happened. It’s because I changed my tipple. I would normally drink beer the whole night but this time I stuck to Rum and coke and it worked a treat. I’ll definitely be sticking to spirits only in the future. A hangover-free day is a way forward!
So my first post of 2018 will be all about me, what a surprise! More specifically it’s the things I want to achieve this year. My goals. Which I prefer to resolutions because they always fail. Although my 2017 was awesome (aside from all the horrible things that happened in the world). I still feel I could have done and seen more. I was very lazy with blogging and being healthy so I plan to change that this year.
1. Lose Weight / Eat Healthier.
Probably the most common goal for everyone at the start of the year. I didn’t particularly overindulge at Xmas but I couldn’t help myself with those pigs in blankets. They are evil little delicious things that I could quite easily eat all day. My weight gain was a steady rise throughout 2017 and it was all down to laziness and boredom eating. It doesn’t help that my office is seconds away from a high street which has every takeaway option imaginable. It’s hard to describe why I even ate takeaway food so much. Because some weeks it was at least 3 or 4 times. Which is bad isn’t it? On days that I even took lunch to work yet still wasn’t satisfied with it. So that will stop. No more junk food. I’d like to lose a stone at the very least. People say I’m not fat because I’m tall and slim and I don’t look it, but I’m edging closer to the BMI and recommended weight for my height and age. I’m going to stick to a set amount of calories per day and try and exercise more. I’m not one for going to the gym. Running on a treadmill for an hour is not my idea of fun. I’d rather play sports, like badminton or squash. Which I used to do very regularly but it just fizzled out. Which happens I know but there was no reason why it did? So it’s time for a new me. I’ll update on my progress throughout the year.
2. Blog More Consistently
This is one I’ve said for the past few years but have never stuck too. And again there is no reason why. Right now I’m typing this on my phone while listening to Spotify and I’m super content. It’s not difficult to post often so I need stop moaning and just get on with it. They don’t even take long to do. So I’m going to set aside writing time each day and just see what happens. But I will post at least once a week. More film reviews definitely and random ones here and there. I love writing and I would like a career that features it heavily, in whatever capacity. I’m never going to get it just sitting here doing nothing. We have to make dreams happen. So that’s what I’m going to do. Just need to keep me motivated. Reading blog posts from you guys does that so I’m going to follow and make more blogging friends too!
3. Read More
In 2016 I read more books than I had in my entire life and I absolutely loved it. It even made me a better writer. In 2017 though I read one or two and that’s it. This is shocking on so many levels. I’ve started on one book already, Ready Player One, which I’m sure most of you have heard of. It’s absolutely brilliant. I can’t believe I didn’t come across it when it was first released. It’s only because I’ve read about the film adaptation that I learned about the book. I got it as a Xmas present and have nearly finished it! For a gamer and pop culture geek like me, it’s so cool to see so many references to retro games and TV shows. I’m excited to see how Spielberg handles the film. It has the potential to be brilliant.
4. Explore and Travel More
This one seems quite vague and that is because I’m grouping a lot of things together in one goal. There are so many things that I haven’t done yet that would take an absolute age to write them all. It is things like West end shows, gigs, and comedians. I want to travel more and I don’t think it’s as expensive as I previously thought. Flights nowadays can be really cheap if you buy at the right time. I also want to explore more of Europe. Amsterdam, Belgium, Italy, Barcelona etc. I want to see them all. Maybe not necessarily all this year but at least tick some of them off! I’m going to Portugal in May and I can’t wait. So far it’s my favorite place to go for a holiday. Just love the culture and sights. I’ll have my proper camera this time too so I can be even more snappy happy!
5. Figure out a career
This one is a definite must. Another one I have been saying I need to do but never have. Problem is time isn’t slowing down, look at how quickly last year went! I don’t want to get a stage where I’m like 40, in a job that is going nowhere. I do enjoy my job but it’s not something I want to do forever. I want to do something that I’m passionate about. And that’s movies and writing. It could be anything to do with that and I’d be happy. It’s just that world is so cut throat and difficult to get in to. I don’t feel I have the experience yet to even begin to apply for jobs like content writer etc. so another option I’ve thought about is more learning. But then it’s so expensive! I looked at open uni and it’s disgusting how much they want for a course. It’s so frustrating that you have to pay a small fortune to want to learn more. So the only way around it is to teach me. Find books on writing and go from there. And most importantly just don’t stop writing.
Well, there you have it. Amongst other things, these are what I will aim for this year. I’d love to know what yours are!
Have a very happy and healthy new year!
